What is an Edge Advisor? If you own your business, you likely know it well. You are fully absorbed in the inner workings of your business and you know what works! However, diagnosing what doesn’t work can present a challenge.
A lot of people can tell you the areas in which you are succeeding or missing the mark. This ranges from your business partner or accountant, to family members and mates down at the pub. The list of people willing to give advice is endless, but not all advice is useful. That’s where an Edge Advisor comes in. YOU are the the CORE of your business. An Edge Advisor is on the EDGE of your business. They are on the outside looking in. They are able to be emotionally and financially unbiased and objective. An Edge Advisor is like a life coach for your business. Different from a Financial Advisor or an Accountant, an Edge Advisor takes a more holistic approach, balancing your business needs with your personal and family needs. Many consumers are seeing the power of engaging with small local businesses. Barriers that used to limit us have collapsed with the power of modern technology. But even the best individual can’t do everything on their own. There is still wisdom in the group. Get a fresh perspective from someone with real-world experience. Find your new edge. |
How can I Help?Think of me as a fresh pair of eyes, someone who can see things from a different perspective. I’ll view your business from an accounting angle, but also look at your business as a consumer, a neighbour, a fellow human being. I love analyzing advertising and business plans. I’m excited about tech - using the latest technology and techniques to help business improve. I understand marketing, I understand people, I can tell what things are holding a business back from being great.
I have 20+ years experience as a bookkeeper and accountant, so I understand the numbers. But I also understand emotion. I understand passion. I understand stress and anxiety. I get it that business is not just about the bottom line. It’s about being happy, looking after your family, feeling fulfilled. And I realize that some people are passionate about their business, whereas others are in business to help them fulfill other passions. As with many people, my life has been shaped through experience. I’ve travelled widely, learnt new languages, made friends, had successes, had failures, been sick, suffered family trauma, dealt with grief and loss; I’ve learnt to view every challenge as a way to learn and grow. I’ve experienced very uncomfortable living standards, and I’ve also enjoyed some luxury. I understand what it means to be poor, and I know that being rich does not always mean being happy. I know that making sacrifices - for the sake of a business, for the sake of your family, for the sake of your health, or for the sake of your values - can be really, really hard. I could share a lot more about my experience in life. And I may just be the person who can help you get your business where you want it to go. How does it work?Every person is different. Every business is different. So the process is different with every individual.
You may want me to come in and observe, look at your accounts, get to see how your business runs, and ask questions about your goals. I can then offer the advice you need to make improvements. For others, you may prefer to meet up for coffee once a week or month, to talk over challenges and successes that you’re currently dealing with in your business, and get a fresh perspective on what you could be doing differently. Or maybe, you just want an independent non-biased third-party that you can call to ask “Is this a good idea?” and talk things through before making a big decision or major commitment. The main thing is this: It needs to work for you. And that’s true of any advisor. If you are unhappy, aren’t seeing results, or don’t like someone’s methods, tell them. Work together to see if you can change and improve. I look forward to meeting you soon. |
